劳动与健康经济学workshop:Exposure or Reasoning: How Mentoring Experiences Reshape Social Preferences

摘要：We organized an online mentoring program in which college students from an elite university were randomly assigned as mentors and paired with middle school students from rural areas. We find that a one-semester mentoring experience alters social preferences of mentors; it induces more egalitarianism in redistribution, and fosters greater compromise between equality and efficiency. Mentors who observe different alignments between mentees’ academic performance, effort, and family background view fairness differently, and their preferences for equality and efficiency depend on whether mentees make good use of the mentoring program. Reasoning from experience, rather than mere exposure, makes the underlying mechanism.

主讲人介绍：陆方文，美国加州伯克利大学博士毕业，现任北京大学经济学院教授、博导，教育部青年长江学者和国家自科基金优秀青年项目获得者。她擅长运用随机实验方法，从事行为和实验经济学、发展经济学、劳动经济学等领域的研究，在国内外顶尖学术期刊发表论文10余篇，包括经济学领域的 American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management，《经济研究》等，还有管理科学领域的 Management Science，以及医学四大顶刊的British Medical Journal，并出版专著《随机实地实验：理论、方法和在中国的运用》。曾荣获第五届“教育部全国教育科学研究优秀成果奖”，以及第十四届和第十六届“北京市哲学社会科学优秀成果奖”。
