The China Center for Economic Research (CCER) is a research networking branch of the National School of Development (NSD) at Peking University. In order to enhance the collaboration of our faculty and students with leading scholars from around the world, and to enhance the school’s network of researchers, CCER establishes the Visiting Scholars Program for scholars from all fields of economics and management science to visit the center for up to one year.

1Tracks of the Program

The CCER Visiting Scholars Program has two tracks: Regular Visiting Scholars Program (RVSP) and Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program (DVSP). The applicants for the DVSP should be professors from world-renowned universities.

2Program Requirement

Applicants should have a PhD degree in economics, management science, or related fields, and be employed by a reputable university or research institution. To apply, applicants should be hosted by a professor at the NSD and submit a cover letter, a current CV and a research plan to Ms. Xiaowen Hu at visitingscholar_ccer@nsd.pku.edu.cn. The research plan should be developed in close collaboration with the host professor at the NSD. Applications are open twice each year. The deadlines are April 1 and September 1 respectively. The decision will be made within two months after the submission of all documents.

3Funds and Available Resources

Visiting scholars selected by the RVSP need to arrive fully funded by their host professor or sponsor.

The CCER will provide a round-trip economy-class ticket between his/her home city and Beijing, which could not exceed 20,000 RMB (you are responsible to pay any amount that exceeds this amount), and a monthly stipend of 27,800 RMB, 32,200 RMB and 40,000RMB respectively for visiting assistant professor, visiting associate professor and visiting professor selected by the DVSP.

Visiting scholars have access to the university’s resources, including its libraries and internet connection. Due to space restrictions, the school provides shared office space or individual office space, if available.

All visiting scholars need to give an academic seminar in their research field. As for the visiting scholars supported by the DVSP more than one month, they need to prepare at least one paper to be considered for listing in the CCER working paper series. The distinguished visiting scholars supported by the DVSP need to schedule two office hours every week to meet the students and faculty members, and are encouraged to teach regular or “mini” courses. Fulfilling teaching duties will receive additional compensation.

During their visit, visiting scholars are encouraged to engage in the NSD’s regular departmental services. Additional compensation will be offered based on service activity.

5Additional Terms
