题目：Immunizing From the Terror: China's New Comparative Advantage?
摘要：We empirically investigate the impact of terrorist attacks on bilateral trade between China and Belt & Road countries comparing with other countries, by employing the theoretical gravity model augmented with terrorism index, based on a panel data set from 1984 to 2014 covering 186 countries. We find that comparing with other countries, China trade more with Belt & Road countries when they are under terrorism attacks. We also try to explore two possible mechanisms. First, as a developing country, China has lower value of life compared to developed countries, so Chinese businessmen are willing to take more risk than developed countries, given the same expected return from trading with Belt & Road countries. Second, terrorists pursue political goals, and apparently, the US and the western countries’ tough responds to 911 incident trigger massive retaliation in Middle East and south Asian countries. In contrast, China pursues the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, so terrorists have fewer incentives to attack Chinese businessmen or facilities in Belt & Road countries, and further, Chinese businessmen have less concern of terrorists attack during their travel in these countries. Our empirical results show distinguished trading patterns of China with Belt & Road countries between before 911 and after 911, which implies foreign policy may be another source of China’s new comparative advantage of trade with Belt & Road countries.

李兵，中央财经大学国际经济与贸易学院副教授。2008年于吉林大学获得经济学博士学位，2011年于香港科技大学获得社会科学博士学位。主要研究方向是外商直接投资、国际贸易、国际政治经济学、互联网与贸易、贸易与创新等。研究成果发表于The Economics of Transition、《经济研究》、《世界经济》等SSCI英文期刊和中文权威期刊。《经济研究》、《世界经济》等期刊匿名审稿人。“雏鹰读书会”创始人，学术顾问。
