题目：Retirement effects on cognitive abilities in urban China: Does retirement age make a difference?

摘要：This paper examines the impact of retirement on cognitive functioning by gender in urban China, and investigates the underlying mechanisms with a special focus on the importance of retirement age in determining retirement effects. Based on the data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, we use the mandatory retirement ages and different policy enforcements between public and private sectors as instruments for retirement status. We find substantial gender heterogeneity in the effect of retirement on cognition, with a positive and significant effect for males, but a negative and significant effect for females. By exploiting the policy-induced exogenous variation in retirement ages across gender in China, we provide evidence that retirement at a younger age may lead to more cognitive declines for older adults. On the other hand, we find evidence that the beneficial effects on cognition for males are concentrated among those with higher education and blue-collar jobs.
个人简介：刘宏，2007年毕业于纽约州立大学石溪分校，获经济学博士学位。2007年至今在中央财经大学中国经济与管理研究院从事科研与教学工作，现任教授、博士生导师，主要研究领域包括卫生经济学、劳动经济学和公共政策评估。近五年来，刘宏在被SSCI收录的Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Comparative Economics, Health Economics, Applied Economics，China Economic Review等国际学术期刊上发表多篇英文论文；在国内经济类期刊《经济研究》、《经济学季刊》、《世界经济》、《经济社会体制比较》、《南开经济研究》上发表中文论文多篇；主持国家自科基金课题2项、教育部纵向课题2项。2012年入选教育部新世纪优秀人才支持计划，2013年入选北京市高校学校青年英才计划。
