题目: Insurances, Consumption and Savings: A Longitudinal Analysis on Rural-to-Urban Migrants in China
摘要: This paper investigates the relationship between insurance and consumption (saving rate) for rural-to-urban migrants in China. We conduct OLS and fixed effect analysis based on a unique longitudinal survey. Our preferred results show that being insured by city insurance is associated with increases in non-insurance consumption per capita by more than 2.5% and non-insurance-and-health-related consumption by more than 2.3%. Overall, being insured by city insurance is associated with a decrease in saving rate by more than 2.6 percentage points. These associations are statistically significant and robust to a number of specifications. We also find that the association is stronger in high-educated migrants and local migrants migrated within the same prefecture. In the analysis on each expenditure category, we find that being insured by city insurance is significantly positively associated with short-run consumption (mainly food), long-run consumption (mainly durables and education consumption) and investment.
主讲人简介：
薛森于2015年10月获得澳大利亚国立大学经济学博士学位，并在该校从事了一年的博士后研究工作。2016年，薛森博士正式受聘暨南大学经济与社会研究院助理教授。此前，他于2010年获得厦门大学经济学硕士学位，2007年获得西南财经大学学士学位（统计学专业）。薛森的研究领域为劳动经济学，发展经济学，微观计量经济学和中国经济问题研究，目前已在一篇论文发表于国际期刊Journal of Comparative Economics。薛森在Rural-Urban Migration in China (RUMIC)项目上付出了大量的时间。RUMIC项目最初于2008年在澳洲国立大学（Australian National University）成立，旨在研究外来务工人员这个群体在劳动力市场上的表现以及在城市生活的融合程度。
