报告摘要：

This paper studies the design of communication hierarchies in a setup with a principal and multiple agents with private agendas. The agents are endowed with unverifiable information relevant to the principal’s choice and the principal is uninformed. The principal can only decide who reports to whom and in which order. We show that a two-layer hierarchy where all agents report directly to the principal is dominated by hierarchies with a larger number of layers. If the agents have similar objectives that are either sufficiently far from, or sufficiently close to the principal’s objective, the optimal hierarchy has three layers with a single agent reporting to the principal. In general, the principal allocates the agents into teams of similar preferences.

Dimitri Migrow is an assistant professor at the University of Calgary (Canada), and hold a PhD degree from the University of Warwick (UK).
