讲座题目:Politicized CSR Discourse as a Nonmarket Strategy

讲座内容:Extant research suggests that corporate social responsibility (CSR) can be politicized by both stakeholder groups and focal firms. Drawing upon nonmarket strategy literature and the constructionist approach to CSR discourse, we conceptualise the politicization of CSR discourse as a nonmarket strategy used by a firm to integrate the interests and ideas of political stakeholders/actors in its CSR reporting. Using a large sample of annual CSR reports issued by Chinese publicly listed companies between 2013 and 2022, we examine if and to what extent this discourse strategy pays off at the company and executive levels in terms of securing resource inflows from the government and obtaining private political benefits in the political system. The research findings highlight the role of corporate discourse in the political marketplace and bear rich implications for nonmarket strategy and CSR research.
